SUMMARY:BFI Student Lunch Series - Algorithms and Public Policy: Opportunities and Risks
DESCRIPTION:Boxed lunches were provided. \nBFI’s Student Lunch Series invites prominent speakers to engage undergraduate and graduate students in discussions on economics. The talks highlight the practical use of economics for answering real-world questions pertinent to businesses and policy makers. \n\nOn April 25\, Professor Jens Ludwig presented his research\, “Algorithms and Public Policy: Opportunities and Risks.” \nAlgorithms (in some form) are commonly used in policymaking\, which creates both opportunities and risks. In this talk\, Professor Jens Ludwig provided an overview of the potential benefits and costs of using AI in public policy\, and the role that economists and other social scientists can play in shaping the impact of algorithms by improving the tools used to build them.
