SUMMARY:China in Today’s World Seminar Series — US-China Financial Decoupling
DESCRIPTION:China and the US are engaged in economic competition that has many dimensions. Jack Wadsworth and Xinxin Li will discuss the financial aspects of this relationship and what is often referred to as the prospects for “decoupling”. Moderated by Anil Kashyap\, the conversation will cover what is meant by decoupling and the triggers that might lead to disruptions.  Wadsworth and Li will also explore the various choices each side might make in the event of an escalation in tensions and assess the likelihood of the use of these options. \nAbout the Seminar Series\nChina is poised to become the world’s largest economy in the near future. However\, such growth is not guaranteed. China faces increasingly complex questions about how to manage the tension between state control and market influence within its own borders\, and how to address international disputes that often arise with expanded global influence. \nPairing University of Chicago economists with world-renowned experts on China\, including both intellectual leaders as well as industry professionals\, “China in Today’s World” is a new series that aims to provide timely insights into these and other key issues\, ranging from technology to financial markets\, and from international trade to regional political challenges. \nAll times are listed in Central Standard Time.
