DESCRIPTION:There has been a recent surge in research that explores how expectations and uncertainty impact financial markets and the macroeconomy. This virtual conference explored some of the latest research on modeling and measuring expectations and their resulting implications for economic dynamics. Researchers explored the role of memory\, information acquisition\, and uncertainty as contributing factors to forecasting and decision making in dynamic settings. This conference is a part of the Behavioral Implications of Uncertainty in Macroeconomics Project (BUMP) generously sponsored by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation under the Macro Finance Research Program of the Becker Friedman Institute.\n\nPresentations are 35 minutes followed by a 15-minute discussion and 10-minute Q&A.

In a new book\, Superpower Showdown: How the Battle Between Trump and Xi Threatens a New Cold War\, veteran journalists Bob Davis and Lingling Wei\, explore the political and economic dynamics of US-China relations. \nBFI-China and the Asian Bureau of Finance and Economic Research hosted Davis and Wei for a virtual discussion of their book\, moderated by Booth Professor of Finance and BFI-China Director Zhiguo He. They were joined by Booth Professor of Economics Chang-Tai Hsieh and Tsinghua University Dean of School of Economics & Management Chong-En Bai for a roundtable discussion on the book and the broader topic of US-China trade relationships.
